KayLee Pemberton is the Chief Creative Design Director for The Blue-Eyed Buffalo. She is the lead decorator for The Design Team and works closely with each of the store managers to provide quality and affordable options for all Blue-Eyed Buffalo customers. KayLee was born in Lubbock, Texas but raised on a working ranch in Oklahoma. Ranch life and rodeo are deeply rooted into her background and it shows in her love for western design and décor.
After attending Tarleton State University, KayLee made Stephenville, Texas home where she later married and raised a son. Her love for decorating and design started in 2001 when she became certified in wall and faux finish techniques. Her painting business quickly went from helping clients choose paint colors and wall finishes to helping with flooring and countertop choices to furniture layout, window treatments and wall décor placement. When a friend offered to join forces and allow her a space inside a new rustic furniture business on the square in Stephenville she jumped in head first and The Blue-Eyed Buffalo came to be.
Her love for making things look pretty is what motivates her the most. She will say that her love for design is both a blessing and a curse. God has given her an amazing talent that she uses in everyday life. The curse is that she never stops. She is always observing, thinking outside the box and looking for the next project. If she isn’t known for her decorating or work in the community as founder and President of the Stephenville Downtown Merchant Association, she is known as “Psycho Filly” from the Cowboy Capital Rollergirls roller derby team. Although now retired, roller derby will always hold a special place in her heart and in her ankle (a plate and screws in her left ankle are a permanent trophy and reminder of her love for the sport). “You are never too old to chaise your dreams,” KayLee says “I was 40 when I started playing roller derby and wouldn’t trade that experience for the world.”
If you are planning on stopping by the store to see her you better make an appointment, her schedule fills up fast but if you do happen to catch her with spare time she is always willing to help put together the perfect designs just for you!
